Dr Protty is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, United Kingdom. He regularly manages patients with chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness and heart murmurs with a particular subspecialty interest in interventional cardiology, specifically coronary stenting (angioplasty) in the treatment of patients with heart attacks and angina. He holds certification in this field from the European Association for Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI).
Throughout his career, Dr Protty has achieved significant professional milestones. He graduated with honours, distinctions, and multiple academic prizes from the University of Birmingham in 2013. He subsequently completed his postgraduate clinical training in cardiology within the Wales deanery becoming a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), a Member of the Academy of Medical Educators (MAcadMEd), and a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC). His academic credentials include a Master’s degree in Therapeutics from Cardiff University, awarded with Distinction, and a PhD in Medicine from the same institution. His doctoral research, funded by the prestigious Wellcome Trust GW4CAT fellowship, focused on cardiovascular medicine, pharmacology, and pathology of atherosclerosis and thrombosis. He remains academically active with over 50 PubMed-cited articles published in prestigious international medical journals.
With his extensive qualifications and expertise in both general and interventional cardiology, Dr Protty aims to support his patients and the public at large by providing expert cardiology guidance to enhance patient outcomes by optimising cardiovascular management, risk stratification, and advising on prevention of cardiovascular disease.
